Mr Gay Australia Takes On The World
When the search for Worldwide Mr Gay begins in the city of Oslo, Norway, on 10th February 2010, our very own Mr Gay Australia, Melbournian Byron Adu will be right there representing Australia and competing for the top title.
Adu, who is set to head off to Oslo on Monday 8th February is excited about the opportunity to finally represent Australia in Worldwide Mr Gay, after the 2009 Mr Gay International competition collapsed due to a combination of the Swine flu and the global financial crisis. Australia is just 1 of 30 countries represented in the competition.
“I was really excited about winning the Mr Gay Australia title, but when it came to the Mr Gay International competition, all the world contestants were kind of jerked around. [The organisers] never set anything in concrete, changing host cities from San Fransisco to the Phillipines to nothing. It was disappointing,” Adu told Same Same.
“Then recently, the organisers of the Worldwide Mr Gay competition kindly extended an amazing invite for me to represent Australia in Norway this year. I’m honoured and excited. I’m going to do Australia proud!”
Adu said that all costs of competing were covered by Worldwide Mr Gay, including travel to Oslo.
“Now all I have to do is get through the 23 plus hours of travelling to get there!” he joked.
One of the categories in the competition is the ‘People’s Choice’; with the winner decided by the voting public – that means you! There’s still time to vote, with one vote a day allowed right up until February 13. Click here to vote for Mr Gay Australia, Byron Adu.
Under the slogan “In The Name Of Love”, the 4-day international Worldwide Mr Gay competition will begin with official reception at the Oslo Town Hall for the 30 Worldwide Mr Gay delegates, hosted by Oslo’s Lord Mayor Fabian Stang.
The grand final event will be a huge extravaganza that is already attracting immense international attention, and will feature Swedish pop hit machine Velvet [second picture] as our very own style guru Will Fennell [third picture] who will host the grand final.
“I just love Oslo, its unique location, architecture, the people, the scenery, without a doubt it was an easy decision to make,” Eric Butter, President of Gay World Ambassador Ltd said to the international media recently.
“We also appreciate the openness and transparency in the Norwegian society. Norway has just passed a new law that no longer separates between gay and straight marriages, and the Royal family’s support for the fight against aids is also remarkable. We were overwhelmed with the fact that a member of the Parliament invited us into the Parliament itself for a cup of coffee and a chat, and that the Mayor of Oslo, Fabian Stang, so whole heartedly supports the event – it’s very encouraging and promising.”
The Worldwide Mr Gay competition is held from 10-14 February in Oslo, Norway.
