Arty Thursday @ Axel Hotel Buenos Aires

Every Thursday, from 7pm to 11pm, Axel Hotel Buenos Aires has a special event named “ARTY THURSDAY AFTEROFFICE”.

It is an art exhibition but also a charity event that supports trend setting young local creative talent from various art disciplines and also a non govermental organization that works on the prevention of AIDS.

In Cosmo Bar and Sky Bar (will be opened in October) at Axel Hotel Buenos Aires, samples of art are made of different styles and concepts, such as paintings, photographs, sculptures, and live performance. Every Thursday the artists changes, and the exhibition is on display throughout the week.

In Autumn 2009, we have partnerships with Fundación Huésped, which works on AIDS prevention.You can participate in the exhibition through a form, by voting on your favorite art piece, and at the end, the most voted piecewill be dontated for the year-end auction on December 10, the second Thursday of December.

All the money from the auction will go to the Fundación Huésped, which will eventually be used to help the AIDS prevention activities.

Stop by Axel Hotel after work, enjoy the art piece from the young local artists, and have a cocktail with a gastronomic dishes we have prepared only for you at Arty Thursday.

Pierre et Gilles, Pierre Commoy and Gilles Blanchard, are gay French artistic and romantic partners. They produce highly stylized photographs, building their own sets and costumes as well as retouching the photographs. Their work often features images from popular culture, gay culture including porn (especially James Bidgood), and religion.

Pierre Commoy, the photographer, was born in 1949 in La Roche-sur-Yon. Gilles Blanchard, the painter, was born in 1953 in Le Havre. After art studies, they moved to Paris in 1973 where they met in 1976, and began to work together.

One of Pierre’s first professional works was taking photos for Sylvie Vartan for music magazines features, who became his muse.

People photographed by Pierre et Gilles include: musicians Amanda Lear (the cover of her 1980 album Diamonds for Breakfast, one of their first assignments), Lio, Khaled, Étienne Daho, Marie France, Mikado, Marc Almond, Marilyn Manson, Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Erasure, Deee-Lite, The Creatures, Nina Hagen and CocoRosie (the cover of their 2007 album The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn); model Naomi Campbell, actress Catherine Deneuve, actor Layke Anderson and also designers Jean-Paul Gaultier and Paloma Picasso.
