If you are going to stay in Berlin during august you can enjoy lots of beer festivals, wine festivals and theatre festivals, one of the most important festivals in this month is the Berlin Beer Festival.

But if you are lucky and you can stay on 20th august, you can enjoy the Berlin’s Friedrichshain People’s Park, the huge Gay and Lesbian Park Festival.

Each year there’s a different motto which delves into the subject of discrimination against gays and lesbians. Expect a varied cultural programme, live bands and a great party atmosphere.

First of all, let us introduce you the newest starlett on the NYC drag scene. Epiphany is sure to wow you with her stunning voice and incomparable beauty. In addition to performing many weekly shows she has sung for the British Consulate, Rufus Wainright, and the Hilton Sisters. Not only a talented performer Epiphany is a fabulous comic and can work with and audience.

1- It is the first time for you as a guest in the Axel Hotel Berlin, what do you like most from the hotel?

Yes it is my first time! I love it! The location in Berlin is perfect, right in the center of the best gay neighborhood, close to the subways, so many bars and cafes. I love the atmosphere in the hotel, it’s both classy and cruisey! The gym is perfect for me too. I can get a good work out and then hit the sauna and steam room to relax. I also love the sun deck up on the roof with it’s beautiful views and lovely music! And the amazing breakfast starts right around the time I get back from working the Berlin nightclubs!

2- You know  Berlin already a bit, so what would you recommend to do here for those who come for the first time?

Well definitely check out this neighborhood. It’s got the Ka De Ve right down the street, tons of shopping and great gay bars. The bars range from fancy cocktails and sparkling conversation to beer and dark rooms. There are some amazing cafes just steps from the hotel too, some with traditional German fare, some with new fusion cuisine, and many international places. Also check out museum island. For just a few euros, you can tour all the collections my favorite of with is the Collection National. It houses only German artists and has the most impressive 18th and 19th century oil paintings I have ever seen. Not to mention and extensive collection of marble sculpture that rivals any in the world. And we all know I love the night life so I’d have to recommend the club scene which I really adore in Berlin. GMF, Goya, Berghain just to name the biggest and best are all great clubs with fantastic dance music keeping me up till the sunrise!!

3- What kind of shows are you running nowadays? Why should someone come to see them?

Well I sing live, I really rock on the microphone and people love that. I am the only live singing drag queen. I work international but my home base is NYC. I sing many pop artists like Lady Gaga, Adele, Rihanna, but I also have roots in cabaret and theatre so I can quickly transition into musical theatre. People love to see my shows because I’m not a typical lip-sync queen. They appreciate my talent and they can still dance to a beat they’re familiar with. I also have the privilege of working in the best clubs in the world, so if I’m there I can promise you the club is amazing and the guys are hot!

4- What do you think about the Gay Pride Events around the world? Do you think it’s just a big party or has any “social” purpose in order to make an approach between LGTB and straight people?

I think “Gay Pride” has evolved over the decades. Being Miss Stonewall Inn 2011 I have intimate knowledge of the origins of the gay pride movement that started in NYC at the Stonewall Riots. I know people who were at the riots in 1969 and I know the struggles they endured to create the gay rights movement of today. Tragically though it started in America the U.S. is far behind in its willingness to give equal rights. I do like that people can be recognized as queer, transgendered, gay, lesbian internationally and that people want to celebrate it. Any big event which promotes good human values is a good thing. It has turned into more of a party over time, but it increases gay visibility and shows the world that we are here and happy about it. I think the celebration is different in every country and city, some are parties some are more serious. Having a gay pride party in Warsaw is wrong it needs to be a serious march for equality, not a showy display. In Berlin it can be a party because the Berlin social system is so accepting and rare. Without a victory there is no reason to celebrate yet. I want to remind everyone though that it started as a march for equality similar to the civil rights movement. Thousands of people have died to create a world for us where we are safe and revered and the beautiful, artistic, free thinking people we are. Those who gave their lives would want us to celebrate our new freedoms, but it all happened with a cost of human lives, we must never forget that.

5- You know many celebrities. In your opinion, who do you think could be the most famous heterofriendly person you’ve ever met?

Haha, the most heterofriendly would have to be Janice Dickinson. She is very “friendly” with the straights. I think she is a leather cum pig gay man inside a flawless woman’s body. But because she is a beautiful wealthy famous woman she can have any man she wants. She does a lot to show straight men how “friendly” she can be, God I love it. If I get reincarnated I want to come back as her. But as far as gays being heterofriendly I would have to say RuPaul. Ru’s show Drag Race has really given straight people the opportunity to view the lives of gay people (drag queens) really closely. I think she has educated the American audience and doesn’t really get the credit she deserves yet. Her show is viewed widely in America by straight people and they are watching a show about drag queens that is very honest and entertaining. This helps them be more comfortable with the gays in their own lives!

“Although the culture and nightlife in Berlin is one of the best in the world (the best in my opinion) people travelling to Berlin should always take the time to visit the gay holocaust memorial. The gay men and women who were caputed during the holocaust are not generally regarded as victims of the holocaust so even if only 1 couple reads this and goes to visit it it will keep the memory of these people alive.”

Fashion Freaks, the international Fashion&Design Festival, travelled to Berlin to check out what’s up in Germany’s fashion capital. On Friday, 17 September 2010, the Axel Hotel Berlin housed the get-together party presenting designers from Barcelona, Mexico, Buenos Aires, Santiago and Madrid to the tune of electronic beats. Music can't get any gayer than this!

Choosing the greatest and gayest albums of all time is no easy task. Curtailing a brawl at Out magazine’s editorial headquarters, the magazine turned to 100 celebrities — including Boy George, Cyndi Lauper, and Rufus Wainwright — each of whom weighed in with the 10 albums that changed their lives.

With selections as diverse as the community itself, Out magazine proudly presents “Out’s 100 Greatest, Gayest Albums (of All Time).” Readers will no doubt have opinions on the selections and mention some titles they feel should have been included.
