After the marriage of Kim Kardashian (yawn), I thought I’d share five of my favorite wedding gowns to help inspire  those gaining marriage equality across the states!  Hopefully next time I do one of these, they can all be from the LGBT community!

5. Christina Hendricks

I am a “mad man” over this dress. Christina definitely shows off her busty-best feature. I love that all of her curves are owned in this gorgeous gown, which reveals her decolletage and arms, making her hair and rosy cheeks pop.

4. Rebecca Olson-Gupta

Sanjay isn’t sorry about Rebecca’s luscious red sari for their wedding. A mix of cultures always creates a more stimulating nuptial. Her jewelry is superb, but the smile between the two of them says it all.

3. Portia De Rossi

With a back like Portia’s, why would anyone ever cover it? I love the simplicity of the dress; it really allows for both brides to shine. The front has a plunging neck line but is done with so much taste that lucky guests must have been stunned.

2. Gwen Stefani

I love the addition of color to Gwen’s dress. It’s difficult to see in this photo, but there is a gorgeous pink ombre at the bottom of her gown. Gwen is always in bright colors and I’m glad to see she didn’t compromise that fact on her big day.

1. Jacqueline Kennedy

Jackie had the classic American picture book wedding gown. I’m sure women all across the U.S. were clamoring to get their bridal hands on that dress. If I only had a time machine and knew the Kennedy family, I would have been in heaven!

Online Gay Marriage

The number of states where gay marriage is legal will rise to five on January 1st 2010 as New Hampshire joins Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa and Vermont. This means that there is now one more option for gay and lesbian couples who want to marry out of state, but two Michigan State University professors believe they have come up with an even better option – that states offering same sex marriage should allow couple to obtain a marriage license online, wherever they are based in the country.

Saying that they believe marriage laws need to be more flexible in meeting the needs of both the couple and the state, Adam Candeub, who is working on the theory alongside fellow law professor Mae Kuykendall, said “states should formalize in their laws what they’ve always been doing in smaller degrees in specific areas, which is, allow people outside their states to use their laws”.

Same-sex marriage

This week in Buenos Aires, Judge Gabriela Seijas granted Alex Freyre and Jose Maria Di Bello, a gay couple, permission to become legally wed, a ruling considered by many as the catalyst for change, setting a precedent which is likely to pave the way for Argentina to become the first in Latin America nation to allow same-sex marriage. Her ruling however, much like what has happened here in the U.S., could be overturned by city officials.

In her ruling Seijas stated:

“The law should treat everyone with the same respect according to their singularities, without the need to understand or regulate them.”

Buenos Aires became the region’s first city to approve civil unions in 2002, but the judges decision is expected to lite a fire under the lawmakers to reach a decision on the issue as the debate over a gay marriage bill currently deadlocked in their congress.

Hopefully the law will pass in the largely Catholic country, setting a precedence for other nations to follow, including the U.S.

Argentina, oficially gayfriendly

Lawmakers are currently working towards making Argentina the first Latin American country to legalize same-sex marriage. They would become the second country after Canada in the Americas to end marriage discrimination.

A growing number of supporters in Argentine Congress began the debate last Thursday on whether or not to change the law that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

If course, and in the U.S., the major opposition comes from Catholic and evangelical Christian groups, who are accusing the government of attempting to destroy marriage and the family as an institution.

Of the 40 million people living in the country, most are Catholic and the church has had a great influence over politics. Until 1994, it was a prerequisite that the president and vice president had to be married and members of the Catholic Church.

In 2002, the nations capital, Buenos Aires, legalized civil unions for LGBT couples, and four other cities followed the lead.

Uruguay is currently the only Latin American country to recognize gay unions.
