New, Inclusive Prez for Marquette University

Axel_Blog_Marquette_University_campusAfter a controversial hiring decision at Marquette University earlier this year shut out a lesbian professor from becoming a dean, the school will welcome a new president who is outwardly inclusive of its gay campus community.

Father Scott R. Pilarz, who will begin at Marquette in fall 2011, is currently finishing his presidency at the University of Scranton, where he launched an initiative to support LGBT students and staff.

“There is no room for prejudice on a Catholic campus,” he said according to the Journal-Sentinel newspaper.

In May, the school rescinded an offer to Seattle University professor Jodi O’Brien to become dean of Marquette University’s Klingler College of Arts and Sciences. She was allegedly denied the job because she is a lesbian.
